Peace Country Canola
I was talking to a Peace Country farmer yesterday about how things have changed in the farming business in the last few years. Peace Country Canola, sounds benign doesn't it? Think again. Monsanto sells the seeds, genetically modified. Must re-buy every year. You'd think that would be enough for them. But they have to sew up the market better than that, they buy the crop too, so if you get your seeds elsewhere they won't buy the crop from you. The seeds are also genetically modified to accept Roundup and Roundup is cheap so if you want a good crop then you are forced into using it or you can't make any money. If you want to farm in canola you are hooked to Monsanto if you like it or not.
